What a scorcher it is today. Temperatures are well in the 90-100's across the Bay Area. Here are some tips to help you survive the heat.
1. Position a shallow pan or bowl full of ice in front of a fan. Viola! A DIY air conditioner. As the ice melts, than fan breeze will pick up the cold water, creating a cooling mist.
2. Apply ice packs or cold compresses to pulse points at the wrists, neck, elbows, groin, ankles and behind the knees to cool down fast.
3. Dunk your clean feet in cold water before bed. There are a lot of pulse points in your feet and ankles. This will help you cool down your whole body.

And if all else fails...

<![CDATA[Take a Break with this Child's Pose Stretch]]>Sun, 23 Apr 2017 21:08:09 GMThttp://peninsulachiropractor.com/blog/take-a-break-with-this-childs-pose-stretchWe love Child's Pose because it's a simple way to calm your mind, slow your breath, and restore a feeling of peace and safety. As with all stretches, please work within your own range of limits and abilities.
 1. Find a soft surface and begin on your hands and knees. Spread your knees wide apart while keeping your big toes touching. Feel your buttocks rest on your heels.
 2. On an exhalation, bow forward, draping your torso between your thighs. Feel your heart and chest rest between, or on top of, your thighs. Allow your forehead to come to the floor.
 3. Keep your arms long and extended, palms facing down. Press back slightly with your hands to keep your buttocks in contact with your heels. Lengthen from your hips to your armpits, and then extend even further through your fingertips.
 4. Soften and allow all tension from your arms, shoulders, neck and back to melt away. Hold for as long as is comfortable.
 5. To release the pose, gently use your hands to walk your torso upright to sit back on your heels.

Enjoy the feeling of serenity you've just achieved!

<![CDATA[Doctors Finally Admit Drugs Can’t Fix Most Cases of Back Pain]]>Tue, 21 Feb 2017 19:37:31 GMThttp://peninsulachiropractor.com/blog/doctors-finally-admit-drugs-cant-fix-most-cases-of-back-painAccording to the American College of Physicians (ACP), new guidelines suggest drugs should be the last line of treatment for low back pain. Instead, the ACP now recommends heat therapy, yoga and spinal manipulation ahead of pain meds for low back pain. These techniques can speed up the healing process by "relax(ing) the muscles, joints, and tendons so people can be relieved of their low back pain sooner, rather than later." says ACP president, Dr. Nitin Damle.

The guidelines were published online Feb. 13, 2017, in the Annals of Internal Medicine.
